Alyse Ostreicher first came to Outward Bound as a student in 1983 and after completing three courses (including a NCOBS 28-day course) ended up in 1989 as an intern working in the then Hurricane Island Outward Bound School- Southern Programs. HIOBS Southern Programs managed seven basecamps working with at-risk and adjudicated youth, their families and their communities.
During her 20 year tenure with Outward Bound, Alyse has worked as a field instructor, course director, trainer and administrator for at-risk, open enrollment and group programs. She has over 1000 days in the field and estimates she has canoed, sea kayaked and hiked the length of the East Coast a few times.
In 1995, she became the HIOBS Southern Programs Staff Developer, a position that recruited, trained and mentored new and existing staff and participated as a member of the regional and national HIOBS management team. She directly managed the Adolescent Instructor Practicum, an internship/orientation program and worked with over 400 new staff to prepare them to work at-risk programming. She also developed a structured trainer program, offering continued professional development to managers throughout the southeast.
In 2005, Alyse took on the role of Vice President of Safety and Human Resources for HIOBS Southern Programs. In this role, she managed a team of staff to assure safe and quality programming throughout the seven southeast bases.
In 2007, Alyse moved with her family to Maine to work for OBUSA through the Blank - Read Training Institute as the Training and Curriculum Manager. The goals of the institute were to create collaborative efforts to further curriculum, training and research across the Outward Bound system. As a part of this small team, Alyse worked on many projects including the OB Fellowship, the OBUSA Wiki, unified technical skills manuals and training curriculum.
During Alyse’s work with Outward Bound, she has obtained a BA in Sociology from Indiana University, a graduate certificate in training & development, and become nationally certified as a PHR (Professional of Human Resources).
Alyse is married to her OB sweetheart Emory Ledestich and both chase after their son, Noah (3), and their new 100 pound puppy, Ozzie.
