Blue Ridge Mountains Backpacking & Rock Climbing - Parent/Child
Description
Activities
Backpacking Rock Climbing Multi-Activity
Get away from your normal routine for an uninterrupted adventure, and share a unique experience that builds trust and communication. You’ll forge a stronger relationship while sharing a tarp, relying on one another to navigate the wilderness, being belaying and climbing partners, and participating in group discussions with other parent/child combos.
The Southern Appalachians (which includes the Blue Ridge & Great Smoky mountain ranges) are some of the oldest mountains in the world. The lush, dense forests feature an incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna. Our courses here foster an appreciation of nature and environmental stewardship and often include an environmental service project. Amidst these highest mountains east of the Mississippi, rocky crags and granite outcroppings provide exceptional climbing opportunities. Creeks, streams and rivers criss-cross the region and cascade into waterfalls and whitewater rapids.
The Outward Bound Difference…
This parent/child course run by North Carolina Outward Bound School is built on the foundation that the shared experience of overcoming a challenge builds strong bonds between parents and their children. You begin to see each other in a different light, strengthen communication and build memories that you will draw on for years to come. You’ll carry the metaphors of shared adventure well into the future.
Duos take the place of our traditional solo, giving each parent/child pair an intentional time for reflection. One day of rock climbing presents new challenges. As climbing partners, you’ll take turns belaying one another and cheering each other on towards the top of a climb. You’ll carry the metaphors of shared adventure well into the future.
Successful completion of your course demands mastery of skills, trust, fitness, confidence, tenacity, leadership, initiative and compassion. No experience is necessary.
